Weight Loss and Mindset – Episode 2

5 Comments November 24, 2009 / Posted in Make Your Life Better by Sue.

We had a lot of response to our first video about Weight Loss and Mindset a few weeks ago. As someone who has dealt with weight issues and dieting since I (Sue) was a kid, I believe there is much more to having the ideal body weight than diet and exercise. I believe it’s much more about what goes on in your mind.

Please watch the whole thing as the best stuff is near the end. We’d love to hear your comments on this one!

Wow Sue (and Steve) what a massive subject, as someone who has been on that rollercoaster since I was 15 (49 next month) I wish you luck in finding the answer. Like you Sue I know all the ‘facts’ but amazingly continue to remain several pounds above my 140 ideal. My 12 yr old daughter fortunately was too young to remember me ‘dieting’ and I endeavour to protect her from that grim place that many women find themselves in. The time I had the greatest results with my weight was when I refused to diet anymore and decided to nourish my body but question what I was actually feeding when I put something in my mouth.

    Hey Sue and Steve,
great post. You are absolutely correct in that a person can eat right and exercise til the cows come home and if they don’t have the right mindset, it won’t matter. As Bob Proctor says “If you have an overweight image of yourself, you’ll never live in a thin body.”

Even though you can practice LOA in other areas of your life, it’s not uncommon for people to have a more difficult time with that when it comes to their weight and their body image. As you said, this is something you’ve been dealing with since you were six, so it’s understandable that it’s more challenging to wrap your head around this than you want it to be. But that’s exactly what you have to do.

I often have clients in situations similar to yours, where they are exercising and watching what they eat, and still not losing weight. Assuming they are actually eating right (many ppl think they are when they aren’t) and are following an exercise routine designed for fat loss, then we need to look elsewhere for the problem. Are they operating (knowingly or unknowingly) under a constant low-level stress reaction? Are they getting enough sleep? Are they depriving themselves of any of the key nutrients (fat, carbs, protein)? Have any other big changes happened in their lives recently? How about in the life of someone close to them? Are they on any meds that might impact their efforts? etc… While most of the fitness and weight loss industry clings to the old ‘calories in vs. calories out’ mantra, there are many reasons why weight loss efforts can stall that have nothing to do with nutrition and exercise.

I’m actually writing a book on this exact subject, with the premise being that, when it comes to your weight loss efforts, “what’s between your ears is far more important than what’s on your plate.” I’d love to send you a copy when it’s done. For now, if there’s anything I can do to help you out with your efforts, please don’t hesitate to ask. Feel free to contact me thru http://www.davesoucy.com. The ‘Contact Dave’ page will get an email to me directly.

Best of success to you both,
    Dave

Sue! You are so right on about all of this weight loss and mindset. It took me a serious mind-shift to get weight off my body. And here’s the kicker…as soon as made this shift…other things in my life also almost automatically improved.

I am one of the people who used to weight myself constantly! Now, I do a few times per week.

So what changed? I used the LoA techniques, writing down goals, measurable specific goals (just like I do for non-fitness related goals). Also…I started writing down every single thing I ate and drank. I thought I had been eating healthy and I was so wrong! Now, I know what affects my body and if I want to have a glass of wine and a nice plate of pasta, I do, but I also tell myself that the scale will be increased in the morning (and not to freak out about that).

I’d love to see what you eat and drink exactly.

I ended up having to substitute foods in to take the place of foods that a diet would have normally thrown out. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to handle deprivation, so I made substitutions. But get this, I still drink coffee with semi-bad creamer in it. I still have oatmeal cookies with my daughter Mila, and I DO NOT COUNT CALORIES. My russian husband would not be happy if I even dared to stop buying mayo.

I could ramble on, but I won’t…I love you guys and know that some simple changes with eating & mindset will make a huge difference. No counting calories.

Julie, Dave and Ann – WOW, thank you all so much for your wonderful posts. I really appreciate you taking the time to write as much as you did. I really feel like now that I’ve gotten this “out there” that it will all click into place for me in the weight department :)

Thanks again for your very warm comments…I will keep you all posted for sure!

Hi Dave, thanks for commenting. I’ve read quite a few things how it’s harder to implement the Law of Attraction with regards to money for a lot of people too. I think it all boils down to how cemented our thoughts and patterns have become, and how powerful the motivation to change is. But for every person, there is likely a unique combination of triggers that created the situation, and a unique combination of triggers that will release the mindset.

Please let us know when your book is completed. I’d love to help you share it with the world Souce! (we share the same nickname)

    Steve
