Steve Style Cam 6 – Steel-Soul Change the Drive Train

Posted in Onstage Piano Lessons from a PRO

This is the instrumental we play to open the nite with Steel-Soul. I like it how it has evolved into a song. Sometimes playing new songs feels more like going thru the motions hoping or pretending that they are going to matter. This song has grown big enough to no longer be a show opener, especially cause everyone solos in this song… and this is the first song of the nite. Don’t know how we get away with starting our nites with an instrumental, actually. I don’t recommend this to Casino acts doing their first shows. However, it’s also a good song for a soundman to get all his levels adjusted with.

2 short notes about the tune. On my gigging keyboard (I’ve had for about 8 years) the first performance patch is titled “Andreas Cave.” For some reason, it’s the only patch left from the original default settings & sounds that were in my keyboard when I bought it. I’ve never changed that one stock patch because I knew sooner or later I’d get around to using it. After 8 years, Yahoo.

And the last ending lick of the song, I still don’t know what to play. So I let it go by. How’s that for honesty? I just haven’t figured out what makes sense to play with those horn notes and that bass note, so I lift my hands. Sometimes NOT playing, is the best thing I can do for a song!
