You won’t get rich without a niche.
3 Comments March 14, 2009 / Posted in Internet Marketing, Progress reports by Sue.We were planning to record videos tonight, but Steve’s been hit with a nasty stomach bug, so hopefully we’ll get to it tomorrow night. Thought I’d go the “old fashioned” blogging route for tonight
…
Through my work in boot camp, I’ve realized that we really need to pinpoint our niche for the Sue and Steve Show. We talk about internet marketing, law of attraction, music, kids, social media, and whatever else is on our minds. If we really want to have a successful blog, we need to pick a niche (topic) and focus just on that. We spent a couple hours brainstorming the other night based on ideas learned at boot camp and with some conversations we’ve had with Brian Williams, an internet marketer and awesome guy we met on Twitter. Michelle MacPhearson who leads the boot camp says to walk around your house, check your bookshelf, go upstairs and downstairs and go to a few key places online (Amazon, e-how and others) to come up with a list of ideas for niches. This can be anything that is a part of your life, your kids’ lives, hobbies you have, hobbies your parents have…the list is endless really. Once you have your list, you shorten it to your favorites (and the ones you think will be most profitable). The boot camp is all about finding a profitable niche, building a site around it (with WordPress, just like this site here) and then monetizing it. Once you’ve done one, you do another…and keep going…building one profitable site after another (yah!). This is so up my alley…I love this work and am just really excited to get a chance to do this. I have chosen our first niche (separate from what we’re already doing), found some keywords that have great potential, set up the website and am now waiting to start the next module on adding content. My only complaint with boot camp is that you can’t access the next module until 7 days after the previous one. I finished module 2 on Thursday and have to wait until Monday to start the next one. boo.
But about this site. We are still nicheless and still have to figure out what to do about that. In our talk with Brian this week, he had us come up with a list of the things we’re really passionate about and ultimately narrow that down to one thing. I think we’ve pinpointed it, but now we’re not sure if we should start focusing our show solely on that niche, or if we should start a whole other show/blog and keep this one going as is. Obviously time may become an issue, so we’ll have to figure that out as we go.
The Sue and Steve Show has been an incredible outlet for us, has bonded us even deeper and has been almost therapy for us in a way. Seems to me it’s worth keeping it going for that alone.
We’ll get more into this in our next videos…thanks for listening, and feel free to comment – I’d love to hear what you think!

I like the randomness of your blog personally, but I don’t come here to buy things. Perhaps you could keep this blog as is, and then use it to direct people to your new niche sites……
I’ve enjoyed watching your vids a lot. It seems as though you guys have this nutural gift of communication that I think, would work so well on TV, some kind of morning show
That’s why I feel the randomness is a good thing.
Those different niche’s might just create even more interest with this original site, so yeah I’d go for it! Things will come together in the end.
Thank you
Hi Guys.
I like the idea of a random blog like this.
Sure niche your way to wealth with other sites but remember our lives are not all about 1 thing, they would be boring if that was so.
People love to look in and see what other people do, what is it that a successful internet marketer does when he is not internet marketing for example.
What is it that Kelly Slater does for example when he is not surfing? People east that stuff up and that’s why those trashy magazines do so well…..ooh look there’s Brittney and she hasn’t brushed her hair.
I think you get the idea.
Keep showing the world the fun, crazy …real side of you and I’m sure that this blog will grow and grow ….you can still monetize it.
