You’re Already Perfect, This Won’t Hurt a Bit
7 Comments January 7, 2010 / Posted in For Your Entertainment, Law of Attraction by Steve. So many people, including myself often enough, figure they need fixing. The truth is, most of us could use a bit more of exactly what this wonderful story is about.
A new friend of mine on the Powerful Intentions forum just shared this recently, and it’s a lovely fable about self-acceptance. Brace yourself, you’re going to feel better and it’s not going to hurt even a tiny bit!

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.
At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water…
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.
But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do ha lf of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.
“I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.”
The old woman smiled, ‘Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side?’ ‘That’s because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.’ For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.
Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.’
Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it’s the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You’ve just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
SO, to all of our cracked pot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

I loved this, and what a great way to start the morning! Thanks so much for the inspiration…as always..You guys Rock!
What a fantastic piece …. great to be reminded of the perfection that is already there when you tend focus only on what’s not there or what you perceive to not be there
Boy, those two pots sure do get around! First heard this one from Bob Proctor years ago, and the pots were hanging from the shoulders of a poor water bearer in India. Same story, same great message! Thanks for the reminder.

This is a beautiful story and exactly what I needed at the moment. I’ve heard it before too but it is always nice to have a reminder that we were born perfect and that we all add something unique to this place called life
I have always thought of myself as a cracked pot. Thank you for reminding me its ok and you love me for that.
HI Arwen & Diane. Thank you both for dropping by to comment.
I loved the cracked pot story when I read it. Since then, I’ve had quite a few people point out that it’s been around for a long time. With comments like yours, I’m glad I did take the time to post it here.
The essence of the story is that something other than “perfect,” is still wonderful. It seems like the more cracked we are, the more unique we are and maybe even the more we can add to the variety and diversity of life on this planet. Are we more perfect, by having a few imperfections?
This guy’s name is Nick, and he tours the world making lemonade after being given lemonade when he was born. I guess not if you ask him about it.
